If I'd been told at the age of 54, being 5'6 and 268 pounds, that I would be hiking the East Ridge Trail in Oakland in 6 months, I would have thought that was crazy talk. Nevertheless, I did just that yesterday!

When my husband and I were younger, we planned to move to Oakland, as we shared a love for the great outdoors and dreamed of living close to hiking trails to explore every weekend. Unfortunately, my obesity got in the way of our plans.

After all, I've given birth to 4 beautiful children, and each one added about 15 pounds to my overall size. After every birth, I felt heavier, more tired, and, honestly, uglier. I didn't like what I saw in the mirror.

I guess it didn't help that I love delicious food. But, at 54 years old, good food isn't exactly my priority.

My grandchildren didn't want me to play with them because they knew I couldn't keep up, and it wasn't fun. My friends didn't invite me to restaurants because they knew I couldn't walk 20 steps without panting. My husband hiked alone because he'd just end up asking hikers to help get me back home.

The worst part is that I see it in the way he looked at me. I know he loved me, but I looked nothing like the woman he fell in love with. And I couldn't blame him.

 

One day, it all changed...

 

A lady I didn't know sat beside me and offered a handkerchief. She was the same age as me but much smaller in size. Then she said something that changed my life.

She told me that she used to be overweight, just like me. But everything changed when she found a simple method using ice that only took 5 seconds.

She also said the method helped her lose more than 98 pounds in only a few months.

I didn't really believe it because I'd tried them all before.

Being outside is my new favorite thing to do. When I stay home, it's because I want to spend time with my husband, who now thinks I'm totally gorgeous.
